Our History and Philosophy

“We want to be in business for ourselves” said David and Joy Adams when they moved from Denver, Colorado, in 1979 to Springfield, Missouri, to open their own Kwik Kopy Franchised printing business.  Dave and Joy knew no one in Springfield but that did not deter them from starting a business from scratch.

“The early days were tough and sure we were afraid at times, but we kept on keeping on and suddenly we had a business” says the Adams, reflecting back on the 28 years they owned the business.  Today DPI (the name changed from Kwik Kopy to DPI in 2004) is owned by Steve Counts, who continues the tradition of quick printing with the same staff that was working in the business when the Adams left.

“I like the business and I like our customers” says Counts, who prior to owning DPI, had never worked in a printing company before.  “We have a very talented Vice President of Operations (Laurie McCulley) who is supported by an experienced and talented team. Had it not been for that being in place and an agreement for that to remain in place, I would not have bought the business.”

“We’re really not in the printing business” says Counts as he ponders about what DPI Printing and Mailing really is.  “DPI is in the communication business. We help people get their message out using various means of print, mail, on line media and specialty products to accomplish their goals” says Counts when asked about the business’ purpose.

Future plans include an evolution to more inbound methods of helping businesses and organizations get their message out.  “We will continue to utilize the printing and direct mail methods that have worked and will continue to work, but we are also moving into helping businesses and organizations build a better on line presence.”
